Session chairs preside over sessions at the Annual Meeting. They introduce each presentation, keep presenters on time, and facilitate Q&A discussions after presentations conclude. Each session is assigned a chair by the program chair.
MSERA Mentors is comprised of seasoned researchers who are interested in working with graduate students on their research projects. Mentors moderate Research-in-Progress (RIP) sessions and participate in mentoring sessions during the Annual Meeting. To ensure that the best mentorship is provided to graduate students, MSERA Mentors should be active researchers and, preferably, MSERA members for at least 15 years.

MSERA recognizes members' service through a number of awards and also by election to office.
Current members in good standing may nominate other current members in good standing for one of the association's two service awards. Those are the Harry L. Bowman Service Award and the Walter M. Mathews Historical Contribution Award. To nominate a deserving individual for either award, please visit each award's page for eligibility and nomination information.
To recognize research scholarship, MSERA presents the Herbert M. Handley Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation Award to a grduate student and his/her major professor. The James E. McLean Distinguished Paper Award is presented to recognize research scholarship outside that of a thesis or dissertation. To submit a paper for either of these awards, both an Annual Meeting proposal and a paper must be submitted. First, the Annual Meeting proposal must be in response to the Call for Proposals. Second, the complete paper (per guidelines) must be remitted to the committee chair directly (NOTE: The Call for Proposals includes only a abstract, not the complete paper.). Both steps must be completed for the paper to be considered. Please visit the Call for Proposals' page and each award's respective page for more information.
